Ebrington Diamond Jubilee Boundry Stones

Ebrington village, which is 1.5 miles from Chipping Campden and in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is having 8 Cotswold stones to mark the parish boundary - all of them individual, but each having a diamond logo and year denoting the Diamond Jubilee.  Some will be upright and some will be lying flat to be used as a seat, for those tired legs.  The boundary, some 8 miles or so can be walked or more importantly for me, cycled for most of the route.

Olympics or Olimpicks?

On Sunday 1st July 2012 the Olympic torch will be making its way through Chipping Campden and by this date Olympic fever will have taken hold.  If you are touring here then do make a point of hanging around the town to see this once in a lifetime event.

But, on Friday 1 June 2012 Robert Dovers Olimpick Games has its 400th anniversary and festivities start on Dover's Hill at 2 p.m.  Locals delight in running around the hill, shin-kicking (not for the faint-hearted), tug-of-war and many other rural sports.  On a fine evening it is a joy to watch the games down in the depths of the hill with soaring  views overlooking the Malverns.  When dark descends the Scuttlebrook Queen lights the bonfire and fireworks blazed in the sky.  This is the moment when torches are lit from the fire and the participants and spectators walk down the hill into Chipping Campden for a great night in 'The Square'.  Maybe not as polished as the London 2012 Olimpics but great fun all the same!

Dovers Hill is around 1 mile from Chipping Campden and is owned by the National Trust, so with their care it is a wonderful viewing point and slap bang in the middle of this area of outstanding natural beauty.

Dawes Cycles  suppliers of cycles to Cotswold Country Cycles, have been selected as Official Team GB bicycles, wheeled products and accessories and what better way to fly the flag than hopping on one of their bikes or sporting one of their accessories.  The London 2012 Olympic Games is destined to be the biggest event in British sporting history and with licensed merchandise expected to raise 80 million pounds towards the cost of funding the Games, Dawes are proud to be part of such an important opportunity.

Storming down the Danube

Last update Jim was in Kalocsa, Hungary heading for Serbia after having a great time in Vienna and Budapest - apparently all men and half the Hugarian women look like weight lifters - makes me look slim then!

Farmers Markets

Whilst cycling around the Cotswolds I noticed that many small towns and large villages such as Stow-on-the-Wold, Broadway and Winchcombe host Famers Markets - do stop and try fresh, fresh produce, it will make the next hill easy to pedal up!
